Preparing to move in 2024? Don’t leave it too late

If you’re thinking about moving house in 2024, you’re not the only one. We look at why getting your house ready to market now is more advantageous than waiting until the New Year.

If you’re thinking about moving house in 2024, you’re not the only one. The New Year is a prime time for people to start browsing while they put the wheels in motion to sell their own properties.

Google search volumes for new houses spiked at the end of 2022 and interest remained high as we came through the New Year. This year is set to be no different and so if you’re thinking about moving in 2024, now is the time to get your ducks in a row.

We know moving house can be daunting, and the thought of doing it while you’re also thinking about Christmas jumper day, presents to buy and wrap, and where your extended family will sleep, might be too much. However, there are significant advantages to getting ahead. Let’s take a look:

Strategic promotion

With Rightmove reporting that traffic significantly increases from Boxing Day onwards, having your property as newly listed in the New Year – when people are at peak levels of scrolling through property portals – can ensure you’re getting maximum visibility for your property. If you don’t start the moving process until the New Year, you’ll be missing out on these motivated buyers.

Let us do the heavy lifting for you

Although this season can be busy, your estate agent can help. Once you’ve had your property valued and you’ve instructed a professional, local, expert to be your agent, they can take the lead on organising the marketing of your home. They’ll be working behind the scenes in December to ensure your property hits the market with a bang. There’s also still time to get your pictures taken before your decorations go up and freshen up your home if it needs it.

New year, new start

The Boxing Day and New Year trend isn’t new. More and more agents are recommending to sellers to get their homes on the market and capitalise on this opportunity, which is why it’s the perfect time to find your new home too. With your house on the market and Christmas out of the way, you’ll have time to view the properties that catch your eye and as a qualified buyer that’s already had their house valued and viewings taking place, you’ll be in a better position to find the home of your dreams.
